In Cyprus, the life of a hunting dog is often one of neglect, cruelty, and suffering. For dogs like Oscar, a purebred short-haired Istrian hound, life began in a cage, marked by hardship and despair from the very start. Born with a deformed back leg, Oscar was deemed "useless" by his owner—a hunter who saw him as nothing more than a flawed tool. Confined to a tiny cage, he was abandoned and left to starve, enduring eight agonizing months of near-death isolation. By the time Veronica Gerardini discovered him, he was barely clinging to life, weighing just ten kilograms—a skeletal reminder of a society that often treats dogs as disposable.
Oscar's story is one of heartbreak, but also of hope. Timid and frightened, he bore the deep scars of his suffering, both physical and emotional. It took months of patience and love for Oscar to begin trusting Veronica, who describes him as a gentle and loving soul, despite the horrors he endured. His quiet, shy demeanor is a testament to his resilience, and his story is a call for compassion in a world that often turns a blind eye.
Oscar, now 3 years' old, is ready to embark on the next chapter of his life—one filled with the warmth of a forever family. He is in good health, negative for any diseases, and up to date with his vaccinations. He is good with other dogs and cats.
Oscar can travel to the UK or EU, where a new life awaits him—a life where he will be cherished, not discarded. If you are looking to open your heart and home to an extraordinary dog who has endured so much yet remains gentle and loving, please contact us. In a world where dogs are often treated cruelly, Oscar's journey stands as a poignant reminder that every life is precious. Will you be the one to give them the loving home he deserves?
If you are unable to adopt, Veronica is in constant need of support. In addition to the 80+ cats and 3 dogs Veronica cares for, she also feeds many cats at a colony in Limassol, Cyprus. She wishes she could feed more, but the financial burden is overwhelming. Every month, she needs 10 bags of Canun (20kg each) at €45 per bag, plus 4 bags of Gemon kitten food (20kg each) at €55 per bag. This adds up to a significant expense. Without caring people like Veronica, these cats would die of starvation.
If you want to help, you can send donations to her Paypal: roni7181@gmail.com or Revolut: 99853584.
Veronica is very appreciative of every donation. Any amount, no matter small, makes a big difference in the lives of the cats and dogs she rescues and rehabilitates.
